Title I

  • Title I Parent Meeting Powerpoint

  • Wat does it mean to be a Title I School?

Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) provides financial assistance to states and school districts to meet the needs of academically at-risk students. The goal of Title I is to provide extra instructional services, resources and activities that support students who are identified as those who would benefit from Title I services the most in order to meet the state’s challenging performance standards in mathematics, reading, and writing.

  • What schools in Choctaw County are identified as Title I Schools

All Schools in Choctaw County are schoolwide Title I schools.

  • What do Title I Programs offer for my child?

    • Identification of students experiencing academic difficulties and timely assistance to help these students’ meet the state’s challenging content standards.
    • Additional teachers
    • Opportunities for professional development for your child’s teachers and school staff
    • A variety of supplementary teaching methods
    • Additional teaching materials which supplement a student’s regular instruction
  • What does Title I provide for Parents/Guardians?

    • Being a Title I school provides opportunities for parent and family involvement and for parents to know their rights under ESEA
    • Any LEA with a Title I Allocation exceeding $500,000 is required by law to set aside 1% of its Title I allocation for parent and family engagement.
    • Of that 1%, 10% may be reserved at the LEA for system-wide initiatives related to parent and family engagement. The remaining 90% must be allocated to all Title I schools in the LEA.
    • Therefore, each Title I school receives its portion of the 90% to implement school-level parent and family engagement with clear expectations and objectives for meaningful involvement.
    • You, as Title I parents, have the right to be involved in how this money is spent.
    •  Your child’s school will hold an annual Title I meeting at the beginning of the school year where you will learn more about Title I, and you will have the opportunity to develop plans to be engaged with the school and the district

Please contact your school for the date and time of this meeting.  The dates will be publicly announced as well.  At these meetings you will learn more about your rights as a parent of a child in a Title I school, such as requesting teacher qualifications and School-Parent Compacts.
